Review of Larry D. Harper's "The AntiChrist" (Condensed Version of "The Advent of Christ & AntiChrist")

Uncle MythMan says ...

Mr. Harper–in this introduction to the newsletter The Voice of Elijah–presents excerpts from two 'apostolic disciples'—"Against Heresies" by Irenæus (student of Polycarp, who was a student of the Apostle John) & "Treatise on Christ & AntiChrist" by Hippolytus (student of Irenæus) to his student Theophilus.

There was a little bit about 'parabolic understanding of the parables' and 'Hebrew idioms (e.g. 'building a house upon a rock' is an idiom for 'the responsibility for a family being passed on to a son), but that's all research for later.

For a breif overview though, Irenæus, Hippolytus & Harper basically point out that the Apostolic Teaching (though not necessarily as reasoned as the heretical teachings) was The only Teaching that was true to Christ.

The ancient writers went into detail about 'how the AntiChrist would set himself up as the new "Anointed One",' but that sort of confuses me because that's kind-of what Jesus Christ did.
Jesus Christ's Big Mistake

Christ messed up by not wussing out of his responsability. Whether you hold the belief that 'the responsability" was dying-for the past or -for the future, He either a) should not have chosen friends with such weak minds or b) shouldn't have let them wuss out on Him.

How did He 'let' them wuss out? By 1) 'bringing light' to the inevitability of His death, 2) 'bringing light' to the inevitable wussiness of His disciples ('No, you will deny me three times before sunrise ...') & 3) leaving them with no signal that they should come and save Him as He would come and save them.

This falls in line with the idea that Jesus was never actually seen after He was taken to Pilate—that the Apostles basically 'strung His resurrection-story' together out of Old Testament provecies to cover their shame after they realized they had wussed out on God.

According to the Apostles, Christ fulfilled the Old Law (by 'offering the perfect sacrifice') & thus enacted a New Law, one which many men have misinterpreted—Harper mentions Martin Luther and John Calvin. The "Golden Rule" drawn from that Law is "Love God as the Highest Highness and love your friend as you would love yourself," yet the Misinterpreters' lives tell a different rule: 'Love yourself as God loves, so long as it doesn't make any more-respected-than-you person uncomfortable.'

But neither one of those is The Law. You recall that the Old Law was "We don't know evil." The Teaching counters that Law, just like airplanes counter gravity. But there was a Law before that:
It Is Not Good for the Man to Be Alone; God Makes a Partner for Man

Maybe thats how the whole "God/good"-confusion started ...

Even Jesus was 'not good' when alone (if 'alone = apart from friends') but He a) became good when he gained friends, and He b) was restored to 'good' when His friends welcomed Him back!
Here Comes Grudgie Again!

You may have read of some 'differences' I've had with the leaders of a couple of Oklahoma City's 'missional communities.' (The think they can 'conquer' any hardship by ignoring it; I know you can't 'conquer' hardship without-facing it and -knowing its cause whenever it rears it's ugly head.)

Due to 'childish fear over-powering childish wisdom' (either a singer's moronic belief that 'fans' are 'stalkers' if you actually know them, or Rex Barrett's moronic belief that 'answers to false accusations' and 'threats' are the same thing), Christ's true Teaching has been banned from Rex's missional community in favor of 'love thyself as God ...'

That community's basis-Scripture is Jesus's parable about the goats and the sheep—those who reject The Teaching and those who live it. They in the community claim to be 'the sheep, and maybe they are; but the sheep of the devil are only as good as goats!

Maybe Rex has finally seen what kind of a 'goat' he has been, maybe he no longer answers to the Accuser's holler–one can only hope–but if they listen for the Accuser then they can't 'hear the Master's Voice' and follow the Holy Spirit.

Sucks to be them.
