REVISED Schedule for U.S. Open Tennis - 9/7 & 9/8

Rain from the remnants of tropical storm Hanna have wrecked havoc on Saturday's U.S. Open schedule, although one of the men's semifinals managed to be completed before the rains came, and the other was was in the third set. The REVISED U.S. Open schedule for men's semifinals, men's final, and women's final are below.

All matches (except for the women's doubles final) will be shown on CBS TV.

Roger Federer defeated Novak Djokovic in four sets to book his spot in the men's singles final. The other match, Rafael Nadal vs. Scotsman Andy Murray, was started during the Federer/Djokovic match to try to get as much tennis completed before the rain. At the time the rain started, Murray was the surprise leader over the number one seeded Nadal, up two sets with Nadal up a break in the third set.

* The completion of the Nadal/Murray match will take place Sunday beginning at 4 p.m. (It will be preceded by the women’s doubles final, which starts at 1 p.m.)

* The women’s singles final, which was to take place Saturday night, has been rescheduled for Sunday at 9 p.m.

* The men’s singles final, which was to take place Sunday afternoon, has been rescheduled for Monday, Sept. 8, at 5 p.m.

Why don't they just move the whole thing indoors and switch to ping pong? It's kinda, sorta the same game. :)

Funny you should mention that... I used to go to tennis tournaments in NYC that were held in Madison Square Garden. Full size court and everything.

The players today would have to make sure they didn't hit the ball too high, or it would hit the huge scoreboard/message board hanging over the middle of the court (that scoreboard didn't exist back when that tournament took place).
