Riya Sen born to parents Bharat Dev Varma & Moonmoon Sen, a former actress on January 24, 1981 in Kolkata, India was named Riya Dev Burman by Birth.

Ria made her cinematic debut as a child artiste in the film Vishkanya, where she played the role of the young Pooja Bedi. At the age of 15 she was cast in a major role in Bharathiraaja's Tamil film Tajmahal. Her Bollywood film debut was supposed to have been in Love You Hamesha, opposite Akshaye Khanna, but the film was stalled and she ultimately made her debut in N. Chandra's low-budget comedy Style.

Riya Sen was often noticed in music videos of Numero Uno Artists like Asha Bhonsle (Jhumka Gira Re), Falguni Pathak (Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi or Chudi jo khanki), Jagjit Singh and Asha Bhonsle (Jab Samne Tum, Kahin Kahin Se), Sonu Nigam (Jeena Hai Tere Liye), and Shaan (Sutta Maro). This bong babe took a stand against casual kissing and went a head with open mouth french style kissing on screen despite its depiction being considered inappropriate in India.

Riya, noticed for her bold and sensual performance attracted similar roles in skin flicks and made herself a sexbomb appearing barely dressed on the cover of a number of magazines, including Femina, Man's World[23], Gladrags, Savvy and Indian versions of Elle, Maxim and Cosmopolitan.
