Ron Paul Blimp is it good or bad?
Ron Paul Blimp is it good or bad?
I've been following Ron Paul for quite a while and just seen his campaign sky rocket in the amount of people that are supporting him. I know of one other person in my area supporting him. The key I think to his sucess in my opinion is the fact that he has able to gather such a loyal following.
Out of this base of support a few people have decided that it would be great for Ron Paul to have a blimp. I love the idea and think that it is a great one. However, after reading "Ron Paul blimp charts unprecedented course" on politico.com I have a few concerns.
The biggest concern is the way that they structured the organization they created to collect funds for the blimp. Instead of creating it as a not for profit they created it as a for profit corporation. That is a great idea because it gets around the read tape, but the bad part about it is. That anyone can buy time on the blimp. So if another campaign wants to buy up the blimp they can.
The way it works is that people sponsor ads on the blimp for the candidate, but if someone else wants to buy space then they can.
Here is a quote that will illistrate what I mean. "He said the goal is to make a profit, then market similar services to supporters of other candidates. “It ain’t nothing like a PAC,” he said. “This is a business.”"

Still better than the George Bush Blimp aka Karl Rove
At least this blimp won't help create the conditions that got us into two unwinnable wars and countless billions of dollars wasted, tanking our economy.
But, I digress. The grassroots support for Dr. Paul without his having equal time in the mainstream media is unprecedented, so he probably wouldn't need to use precious campaign resources to do this, especially since any other candidate can put their ads on it, too.
I agree with you on that as
I agree with you on that as well. I am surprised that no one else in the mainstream has really thought about how to market their candiates the same way Dr. Ron Paul seems to be getting marketed. I guess that is what happens when you have a major grassroots support happening. You end up with people from all walks of life with all sorts of ideas on what to do. Mind you I've done a few subversive things to support Ron Paul. Like go to best buy and set the automatic calendar alert to go off everyday with the message to visit ronpaul2008.com on the computers. Also in staples where they let you test pens, I've written it there as well.
I'm not 100% sure if he will make it or not, but he is definately being a thorn in the side of the established status quo and media conglomerates.
I temporarily switched my party affiliation back to Republican..
I have been a registered Independent since 1996, but I temporarily switched my voting affiliation back to Republican to support Ron Paul just in case the California Republican Party tries any shenanigans with the Primary, as has happened elsewhere in the country, in a shameless move to block Dr. Paul from the nomination.
After the primaries are over, I will switch back to Independent, but Ron Paul definitely has my vote.
