RSD/chronic pain

RSD just what is it? One of the most common, yet often unknown, chronic pain disorders goes by the name of RSD. Also known as Reflex Sympathic Dystrophy is a conditon that afflicts millions of people world wide. Most people go years,if not longer, without ever knowing what is causing their pain that will not go away.

RSD is a condition that is brought on by either a simple accident or a major trauma. For most the pain associated with this injury will disappear upon healing form the injury. But for the few that the pain continues to linger long after the injury has healed can produce an even hard time of dealing with the pain than most peolpe can understand. From doctor to friends and family thinking you are just faking things to either get out of working or to obtain painkillers.

What they do not realize though is that pain is all too real and not just in their minds. RSD is a neurological disorder in where the nerves are basically in a constant state of pain and no matter what is done brings no relief. Without boring everyone reading this I will provide this link if you wish to read more on the medical jargon and symptoms, www.neurologychannel.com/rsd/. They can explain things much better than I ever could for those who want a medical description. All I can give is my own accounts of how I have been able to deal with my own battle with this horrible disease.

For the past 3 years I have been afflicted with this condition and have had to endure such things as I have described above. Some of the symptoms that do come along with RSD are the unusual increased pain, sensitivity to touch or temperature changes. Some people have heat sensitivity, some a sensitivity to cold. There is can be a change in skin color and a temperature change as well, but like I said I will leave the aformentioned link list the symptoms.

The pain is hard enough to deal with but for me the hardest part was dealing with the constant unknown of what is wrong with me. Going from doctor to doctor until I finally found one who took the time actually listen to me and not what he could,or for that could not see. The best thing he did for me was getting me in touch with a well knowledgeable pain specialist, who in return got me in touch with a very good support group. www.rsdhope.org and www.rsds.org were able to understand what I am going through as well as giving me a place to turn to for support.

Watch for future reports on how I have coped with this condition and the medical breakthrough that has given me some relief.
