Russia and United States Entering a New Cold War
Russia and United States Entering a New Cold War
The United States and Russia are spiraling to a new cold war. Recent events in Georgia have put the United States squarely at odds with Russian policy makers. Most in Russia think that Georgia's intrusion into of South Ossetia was given a secret go-ahead by U.S. policy makers. If this is even remotely true, it is a grave mistake by the U.S. government. South Ossetia is vastly pro Russian.
The most dangerous repercussion of this invasion is the opinion of the Russian citizenry. If they think the United States approved of this incursion it could give the Russian government the impetus for a more severe response despite protests by any United Nations body.
It has been apparent in recent years that Russia is moving back toward the old Soviet Union style of government. The first steps have been taken and, all that is left is the approval of their own citizens and the citizens of former Soviet states. Once that happens, it's the cold war all over again. It's not really a matter of if ... it's a matter of when.
