Russia, Georgia On the Verge of War Over South Ossetia

On the day of the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics, a war has erupted between Russia and the former Soviet republic of Georgia. The conflict centers on South Ossetia, a breakaway region of Georgia that declared its independence from Georgia in the early 1990s, but that has not been recognized internationally.

TV has shown Russian tanks and troops moving toward the Georgian border; Georgia claims it has shot down two Russian military planes. Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has told CNN that his country is "under attack."

Russia claims that Georgia started the current conflict by killing several Russian peacekeeping troops in a border area.

Since gaining independence, the former Soviet republic of Georgia has annoyed Russia with its pro-Western stance.

They could also have a

They could also have a handicap match - the Security Council vs. the rest of the General Assembly. Maybe a "triple-threat" match: Assad & Gali vs. Kofi Annan. (I'd like to see him take a beating.) *If you're interested in reading my articles, Click Here.

Georgia/Russia wrestling: now you're talking

I'd prefer that the UN be part of an undercard for the main event... maybe Bashir al-Assad vs. Boutros Boutros Gali.

@Idlewild: But Leaderhood is Gained by Selective Buck-passing

When something good has been done, the leaders know how to take all the credit; but when something good ~has yet to be done~ (whether it's flying into the fray [sp?] or absorbing the nuclear-explosion), innocent people seem to be just the right cushion! ... signed, Uncle MythMan---Big Fan of stars like mom Pam Shriver, friend Vanessa Montagne & Lena Li--Xombie Plan

Yeah...wrestling sounds

Yeah...wrestling sounds good. And we can have the United Nations guest-referee the match: Russia vs. Georgia and the Inherent Flaw of the United Nations Chances are good they won't affect the outcome anyway (unlike the WWE guest-refs). *If you're interested in reading my articles, Click Here.

Entanglements

I'm sure if you pulled on the various threads in the Russia-Georgia conflict you'd find a lot of interesting things unraveling. I like the WWE idea: a one fall with no time limit over-the-top steel cage match. Is Hulk Hogan available to referee?

Israel had over $1 Bn invested in Georgia

Truth is stranger than fiction in Georgia. Israel has over $1 Billion invested in Georgia, has built up Georgia's security/military infrastructure, and has (or had) over 1000 Israeli military troops advisors in-country leading the attacks into South Ossetia. The Defense Minister of Georgia is a "former" Israeli citizen, who used his office to fast-track Israeli companies and their contracts. The BTC oil pipeline that runs through Georgia was slated to branch off to Eliat in Israel, which was backed heavily by Israeli investors. Don't think the Russians didn't notice. What we ought to do is have a tag team with Bush and Saakashvilli on one side and Putin and Medvedev on the other in a WWE-style Battle Royale. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

Jerry Springer is the decider

... and by making the decisions of whom to "bring together," he's creating the division and the controversy. But if the leaders of Russia and Georgia could brawl on stage and throw chairs at each other, that would be better than shooting and bombing each other's civilians.

@Idlewild: I Thought Jerry Springer More a "Unite-er"

What gets him the 'divider' title is 'his choice' (or his producers' choice, whatev) of reunions. Maybe he could have Georgia and Russia on the stage ... and then Israel comes chargin` on, yellin` `bout how Russia 'did them wrong' by aborting baby U.S.S.R.! ... signed, Uncle MythMan---Big Fan of stars like mom Pam Shriver, friend Vanessa Montagne & Lena Li--Xombie Plan

Jerry Springer and the Russians

Maybe if we shipped Springer to Georgia that would scare the Russians into going back to their country.

global invasions on the next jerry springer

sounds to me like a job for jerry
