Sanjaya for President
posted April 12, 2007 - 4:33amIn a surprise move, popular singer Sanjaya Malakar has left American Idol in order to seek the Democratic nomination for President. “The time has come to turn my attention to other matters,” Sanjaya told a hastily assembled press conference. “ I know this will shock many of my fans, but I
believe in my heart they will support me.”
Four More Years!
Democratic hopefuls Hilary Clinton and Barak Obama had a mixed response to the Idol finalist’s announcement. Senator Clinton felt Sanjaya’s departure would help Blake’s chances of winning, while Obama was more puzzled why his campaign for the nomination would be interrupted by questions about a contestant on a televised talent show.
Sanjaya credits Idol judge Simon Cowell’s tepid endorsement of his recent performance as his motivation to seek the highest office in the land. Of Malakar’s rendition of “Besame Mucho”, Cowell said it “wasn’t horrible”.
Judge Randy Jackson seemed to be distracted by a fly in the stage lighting, while Paula Abdul simply slumped forward in her chair until the broadcast was over.
“With that kind if support from America,” said Sanjay, “I know I can end poverty and cure diseases and teach kids to read good. Check out my MySpace page for more. It’s cool.”
