Sarah Fisher Completes the Indy 500
posted May 28, 2007 - 8:44amIndianapolis, Indiana is located in the center of America's
"Corn Belt", soon to be the center of America's Energy Belt as more and more Ethanol processing plants are built to supply the United States transportation energy needs.
Indianapolis is also in the center of America's "Thunderstorm Belt", the
rainstorms supply the water that enable the corn to grow ten-feet-tall.
To a Californian, like myself, to see miles-and-miles of cornfields with no irrigation pipes is a remarkable thing. Considering that Californa is in a severe drought situation, It is remarkable also that the cities allow the unqualified "gardeners" to maintain sprinkler systems that drench sidewalks and spray into the streets, letting valuable water flow into the gutter like I saw while visting Hermosa Beach to do research on the alcoholism that is created there.
In a rain-delayed running of the Indy 500 Sarah Fisher managed to complete 164 laps, (the race winner, Dario Franchitti completed 166 laps) in a Dreyer & Reinbold Racing car that just did not have the top-speed capability of the frontrunners. Completing the race was noteworthy, for Sarah Fisher managed to avoid the several accidents on the way to finishing in the 18 position.
