Saturday Night Live to Re-Run its First-Ever Episode - George Carlin Hosts

Saturday Night Live is paying tribute to George Carlin tonight by re-running in its entirely the first-ever episode of the show, which Carlin hosted.

Airing at SNL's usual time, the features musical performances by the late Billy Preston and Janis Ian. The first SNL episode, a new experiment in TV at the time, originally aired in October 1975.

George Carlin died earlier this week of heart failure at the age of 71. Many people (including me) had long forgotten that Carlin hosted the very first Saturday NIght Live, or were never aware of it at all. (And yes, Don Pardo was the announcer back then!)

SNL is also featuring vintage clips of Carlin's comedy at its Web site, http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/ .

Yeah, I posted it last night, talking about the show that was broadcast later that night. You can check the SNL Web site at the end of the post and see if they're streaming the episode online... or it might already be online there or at Hulu.com, which I think NBC is a partner in.
