Save the Economy; Save the Earth

Save the Economy; Save the Earth

I am a firm believer that we can turn the economy around WHILE saving the earth. It seems to me to be a no-brainer.

All we have to do is wrap our heads around, seriously and forvever, dropping the old fossil-fuel based way of life like a hot potato – and zero-ing in on hardcore development and expansion of green energy. The old ‘grid’ will vanish, jobs will spring up overnight, and the air (thank God) will finally be cleaner. Perhaps even the polar ice caps will go back to freezing like they’re supposed to.

For example, let’s look at wind power. It’s free, right? “Free as air.” Some lucky ranchers/farm owners and Native American tribes in the high and dry West, who have always previously had to scratch out a meager existence, are now raking in the dough from this free source of energy.

They’ve allowed visionary companies to install windmill farms on their property.

They’re finally making and spending some serious cash while also-benefitting local school districts are all of a sudden buying computers, fixing delapidated gyms, and adding additonal rooms. Well, someone’s got to get paid to make, transport, and install the windmills. Someone has to run the shops and businesses (regional OR online) that are now catering to these new clients. Someone has to work on the suddenly-flush school district’s building improvements — or maybe even build new ones.

What about solar power? Same thing, and every day you read more and more about different power companies offering credits to those who go solar. Someone has to produce, market, and set up those systems.

BMW’s about to put out an electric car you can lease. The 2009 Mini E is about to cut loose on the world. We can still have cars and the whole automotive-industry and the attendant jobs; let’s just have it where it’s not melting Antarctica and giving us asthma.

They’ve invented a process to harness wave power from the oceans — My gosh, it’s exciting; I could go on and on!

Anyway, that’s my two cents — I DO believe salvation is right at hand … We just have to open our eyes to it.
