Save Money ! Cut Your Electricity Bills - Practical Tips to Save Electricity

Here are some cool ways to conserve electricity at your own home and thus bring down your bills. This will save money for you. There is a lot you can do in your home right now to save precious energy or electricity.

Here are some facts and < span>actions you can take while operating electrical appliance to reduce your electricity bills.

  • At home these are the main sources of consumption:
    1. Lighting
    2. Heating
    3. Ventilation
    4. Air Condition
    5. Cooling
  • During heating or air conditioning make sure all doors and windows are closed.
  • Blinds and drapes to be closed during air conditioning.
  • Use sun control films on window glasses. This reduces thermal load on ACs and cooling fans.
  • Check refrigerator loose and ill fitting door gasket. It is a huge drain on power, as the compressor has to run longer to cool. And more the compressor runs, more it heats up the room. Remember, the area behind the refrigerator?
  • Do not leave appliances on standy mode if you are not using them. We usually leave our TV and stereo in such mode. Items on standby mode consume 85% of power if fully switched on.
  • Buy fridge with automatic defrost. And keep the freezer and fridge stack up fully as there will be less air to get away on opening the door.
  • Keep door open of the fridge for as less time as possible. For this during installation keep the fridge titled backward to aid quick closure.
  • Keep refrigerator away from direct sunlight as also away from oven.
  • Cool things outside before stacking in the refrigerator. Else the refrigerator has to work double hard to cool hot food.
  • Use Carbon Filament Lamps (CFL) instead of light bulbs, which consumes more power , but gives less of light and generates more heat.
  • Here are some estimates of monthly consumed electricity of appliances in an average household.
    1. Air Condition - 75 Kw
    2. Water Heater - 60 Kw
    3. Color Tv - 55 Kw
    4. Refrigerator - 52 Kw
    5. Microwave oven - 16 Kw
    6. Washing Machine - 9 Kw
    7. Fan or Music System - 12 Kw

Now if you follow these tips you can bring down your bills considerably, and thus save money.

Thanks for the tips, I find them all very relevant and practical. My electrical bill shocks me every month and I am not gonna stand this anymore. I decided to make an investment and get new more efficient appliances. Frigidaire parts are most suited right now for my needs.
