It’s true that scientists don’t know exactly how much world temperatures will rise if we persist with business as usual. But that uncertainty is actually what makes action so urgent. While there’s a chance that we’ll act against global warming only to find that the danger was overstated, there’s also a chance that we’ll fail to act only to find that the results of inaction were catastrophic. Which risk would you rather run?

--Paul Krugman, in today's article: "Can This Planet be Saved?"

I hate that I'm all but a blogger now; it's just that the more I read on politics, the more I feel the need to communicate and encourage people to not only get more involved in current events, but also to think for themselves.

That said, I only have a little bit to say about this article (with forewarning: My liberal slip is showing in all cases environmentalism).

I have long been one who firmly believes that the media version of global warming has been sensationalized. Are there climate issues? Yes. Are they as drastic as everyone seems to think they are? No, not when looking far enough back through time. But I'm not wanting to get into an argument here for one simple reason: It doesn't matter.

The steps the uber-environmentalists are trying to convince everyone to undertake (I.E. the whole "Green" movement) are things we should be considering anyway. Even if Joe Shmo had never even heard the term "global warming," he should still watch his waste, consider his carbon emissions, re-use everything he can and save as much energy as possible. These things are not only better for the planet (at the risk, once again, of sounding tree-hugger) but better for your wallet...in most cases, anyway. And let's face it: if more people bought organic products, they wouldn't be so expensive. So that old complaint about organics being too pricey is silly. It wouldn't take long at all for those prices to come down.

So significant climate change or just Earth's perpetual cycle, think Green every once and a while. It's not going to kill you.

And if you won't think Green, then just THINK, for God's sake.
