Saving Seed / Fruit & Nut Trees
Saving Seed
-----------
Choose carefully the plants for harvesting seeds. Most vegetables are harvested before the seeds (fruit) fully matures. And some plants require that the fruit mature on the plant for the seeds to be viable. When selecting plants / vegetables to let go to seed, it is recommended that the best of the crop is left to go to seed. Done year after year, this forms a managed natural selection of the best heirloom crops.
Fruit & Nut Trees
-----------------
When looking at planting trees, consider planting fruit or nut trees. This option will not work for many suburban home owners, but there are similar options. There are many dwarf trees for planing both outside and in pots for inside the home. There are also fruiting bushes that will grow in some areas. Any of these options can take multiple years to become established, so the sooner they are planted the sooner they will start producing.
