In my part time job as a SCUBA instructor on an inland lake I have had my share of wet cell phones. Mostly due to my own stupidity and leaving them in a place where they would get splashed. I have found some ways of saving them that might work for you if your phone has got wet.
You should take out the battery as fast as you can to prevent short circuiting.
The give it some forceful taps against your palm to drive the water our of the wet cell phone.
If you have a shop vac or vacuum cleaner handy use it so suck water out of the phone, starting at the keypad and moving around to the back of the phone.
You might want to take off the antenna if it has one that comes off to allow another path for water to escape.
If you have an air hose or compressed air such as in a SCUBA tank, use it to blow the water out of the phone.
The, without delay place it in a sealed container full of white instant rice. Instant rice sucks the moisture right out of the phone, way better than regular rice.
If you do this you may just save your wet cell phone. Leave it in the instant rice overnight and don't power it up for 12 hours.
Good luck!

It is definitely possible to save a wet phone.

You have to try your hardest to dry it quickly, and prevent the majority of the inside from soaking or short-circuiting, but it is possible.

My 6 year old is very good with electronics, and we've seen her save a wet cell phone. Of course, lol, I doubt she'll do that again, consider how scared she was when my friend (the owner of the cell phone that had fallen into the toilet) screamed with joy and hugged her a little too hard. ;)

Saving a wet cell phone or iPod

Heard a story on the radio a couple of weeks ago about this... you can use rice, but can also use silica gel (those packets that come in some electronic equipment). I don't know if I'd use that compressed air thing... that might blow water further into the electronic components.
