Seattle Signs Houshmandzadeh - Matt Hasselbeck Rejoices
posted March 6, 2009 - 6:48pmT.J. Houshmandzadeh is now a Seattle Seahawk after signing a nice plump five year contract for 40 million plus. Cincinnati has been falling apart in recent years and few if any people expected the receiver to hang around when free agency came calling. Still, the signing of Houshmandzadeh by Seattle came as a bit of a surprise to many. Seattle is about as far as you can get from Cincy afterall.
Houshmandzadeh nearly resigned with the Bengals but the Bengals waited too long. Once Houshmandzadeh got with Seattle all bets were off. There was a late visit to Minnesota, but the Seahawks were the only real runners in this race. Minnesota has a very shaky quarterback situation, and the Seahawks have Matt Hasselbeck.
Though Hasselbeck has had troubles recently, the bigger problem has been massive injuries to the receiving corp. Even journeyman Koren Robinson spent time at the position for the desperate Seahawks last season. This year is looking much brighter as the talented Houshmandzadeh joins Hasselbeck and returns the Hawks to relevancy.
It still remains to be seen whether the Seahawks will sign more free agents, but given that Houshmandzadeh was a surprise 40 million, it is unlikely.
