Seattle's Ye Old Curiosity Shop

Seattle's Ye Old Curiosity Shop

Since 1899, Ye Old Curiosity Shop, the self proclaimed World’s Most Unique Shop has stood as landmark and institution of Seattle’s kitschiest one stop amuses all oddities vendor. As much as it’s a museum of the strange and bizarre, it houses a selection of nearly 30,000 items for sale, from shrunken heads to t-shirts. Don’t forget to take a look at the eight legged, bottled pig or the Siamese twin calves on display though as this is still an attraction of the most twisted and delightful design.

And it’s no trip without saying hi to Sylvester and Sylvia the Mummy couple on display. The shop is a page out of Ripley’s oddball collection, and the curious old connoisseur of the strange and outlandish would likely find himself quite at home and amused among these curious objects, as he’s quoted as saying (on the shop’s website) “The greatest shop I ever got into.” Anyone out and about while visiting the city should take the time from their day to stop on by and peruse the sundry goods of Alaskan Way’s century old landmark of the peculiar. Even for those that live in the city, it’s a must stop every now and then.

So, for tourists, stoppers by or long time denizens of the northwest, if you’re ever on Pier 54, stop in to see Ye Old Curiosity Shop’s collection of the strange and bizarre and pick up some volcanic ash jewelry to take home. Yup, they have that too.

I remember that place!

I remember that place! It's very neat. The entire Pier 54 is such an interesting place. I love the colors in the flowers on the market, the smells of the coffee, even the fish! I don't know why this place fascinates me so. Maybe it's more of its effect on my memory. This is where my dad lives. I think he's mainly trying to move back to Texas because that's where family is. I know that he and my stepmother really enjoy the culture there.
