Selling a Horse
posted August 8, 2008 - 10:25pmSo, you're thinking of selling your horse.
First of all, think about WHY you are selling him/her. It helps to make a list of pros and cons. What do you like that this horse does? What do you dislike? Write it all down.
You need to decide if you just want the horse gone, or if you'd like him to go to a good home. Generally, it will take longer to find a good home, but you won't regret it.
Start advertising. Most horse owners like to look on the internet for horses to buy. In your sale ad, start with a good picture. If you cannot get a picture of your horse being ridden, at least groom/bathe them, and maybe even braid their mane. Make sure they look clean and tidy, with a healthy coat.
Make sure your sale ad has good grammar in the description. Make your horse sound like something you'd like to come look at, or at least inquire more about. Do not lie in the description, but do not make the ad all about the horse's problems. For every bad thing, add at least 2 good things.
Once the buyer emails you, be very up front about any issues the horse may have. Tell all about health problems and behavior issues.
Hopefully, if you follow this advice, you'll have a buyer wanting to come see your horse about purchasing him. Good luck!
