I once asked a young Japanese traveler in India where he lived, where his home was, and he proceeded to draw a fine line highly detailed map of Japan, with all the outlying islands, the major cities, and his hometown. I couldn't believe my eyes. His friend said it wasn't an unusual talent in Japan. But it sure is unusual in the good old USA. I am not even sure where some states are. I get really fuzzy about the Midwest. And the South is just weird. But check out Sen. Al Franken, talking a mile a minute in front of a Minnesota state fair audience while drawing a large scale map of all 50 states. I am so relieved this man in in the senate!
