Senator John McCain Picks Sarah Palin (Governor of Alaska) As His Vice President

Senator John McCain Picks Sarah Palin (Governor of Alaska) As His Vice President

0
points

Fox_News reports that Senator_John_McCain Picks Sarah Palin as his Vice_President pick. Verification has resulted after the campaign_revealed that Tim_Pawlenty, Mitt_Romney and Huckabee_were not John_McCain's choice. Drudgehas also reported this verfication. She has been the governor_of Alaska_for one term and has a great story. She recently gave birth to a downe_syndrome child. This is really exciting for all the women who want the glass_ceiling broken. Senator_Obama_did not want to pick Hillary to break the glassceiling, and chose_Joe_Biden_instead. However, John_McCain wants women to break the glass_ceiling and to be Vice_President. It shows he is more about change thanObama, by picking a woman.

Hurray for women and breaking the glass_ceiling. McCain/Palin 2008

YEAH For Women

This is great for women and it appears Republicans care more about women and breaking the glass ceiling. The democrats talk about supporting women and breaking the glass ceiling, but they didn't put a woman who got 18 million votes in the VP slot. Way to go McCain!

I hate

I hate to say it but this might be the end of McCain. Unless Palin weilds a big hammer, which I don't think she does, this may be a Dan Quaylish, Ferraro, Hamlin type pick. Especially if she has to go against Biden. She either needs to get up to speed real quick or hope the Dems look real bad beating her up. I don't think she is going to add much.

"Wikipedia has confirmed"?

Wikipedia is a notoriously inaccurate source for "news" ... in fact, her article there mentions nothing about her being chosen VP. That suggests that the "news" was a joke and has been taken down by Wikipedia staff.

If you've got confirmation of this selection from a legitimate "news source," please share it with us.

McCain picks Palin

If this is true McCain just wrapped up the election, its all over but the crying. Every female democrat who was disgruntled that Hillary wasn't nominated, and then offended that she wasn't picked for Obama's vp will be thrilled that McCain named a woman and vote republican. I think it is one of the best political decisions he has made....if it is true.

Idlewild's picture

Sarah Palin

Women who supported Hillary Clinton did so not just because she was a women, but because they felt she had the experience to be president.

Sarah Palin has been governor less than two years ... her political resume is thinner than Barack Obama's

Whatever votes McCain might get for choosing a woman will be more than offset by the ones he'll lose for choosing someone with so little experience.

Choosing a VP who's ready to assume the presidency is pretty important when the presidential candidate is 72 years old.

wHATUP's picture

That's

That's I was sayin'. Palin looks like a "safe" pick that McCain is hoping she stays in the background and not hurt him. So many people give the public so little. Ferraro was trounced by Reagan and Bush. A huge part of that was the Carter/Mondale thing but another large part was that Reagan/Bush was just a better pair. Mondale couldn't compete with Reagan and Ferraro had nothing for Bush. Ferraro had a much better resume than Palin a this point in her career. We'll see how it plays out but I don't think this is going to work for him. Obama/Biden seems to be the better ticket at this point. Things may change. Women are not going to vote in mass for Palin just because she is a woman. Obama can easily counter that by pushing the Clintons which if McCain is smart - he doesn't want - he should want to keep the Clintons on the sideline.

Change?

This is the whole problem. If this is true, he picked her because she's a woman, no other reason. This country seems so bent on putting a minority "somewhere" in the ticket that they forgot to worry about who can do the best job.

I prefer Obama because he gives us the best shot at changing the course of this last 8 years, not because he's HALF-black. I have never liked Hillary and, being from upstate NY, I can tell all you Hillary lovers that she is a terrible Senator, at least for upstate. She has done nothing for us. Also I still question the truth about the Vince Foster death. Would Obama have to worry about his life if he chose her?

I would, however, vote for a woman who I believe would do a good job.

I also believe that, the way the past 8 years have gone, you would be a total idiot for voting for McCain. My reason is that he is another George Bush. Obama will almost certainly NOT do a worse job than the last 8 years.

So, if this true and McCain wins, it just shows how stupid the majority of Americans really are!

Moot point

I think the whole Palin issue is a moot point... Karl Rove is not going to go for her, for the reasons I mentioned. And Karl Rove is closely advising McCain on his VP choice (he has supposedly been lobbying hard for McCain to NOT choose Joe Lieberman for VP).

The VP is a heartbeat away from the presidency, as they say... if McCain falls ill, I don't think many people will be comfortable with a person with less than two years as a governor, and whose previous experience consists of being on the Wasilla City Council.

Frankie says relax

"you would be a total idiot for voting for McCain. "

Mrbronco, I think this statement is dangerously close to the kind of comment that Xomba wants to prevent.

Idlewild's picture

Title of xombyte should be changed

...because it is totally inaccurate.

(Doesn't this violate Xomba's rule against posting inaccurate or misleading information?)

Xomba Moderator's picture

I Will Fix The Title

Better?

mrbronco's picture

How About This...

"It would be a move that would not be in anyone's best interest if you vote for McCain".....better??

Thank you Idlewild, Xomba Comment Police Chief.

Just trying to help

Considering that just yesterday Nick wrote a xombyte urging people to refrain from personal attacks, saying that someone would a "total idiot" for voting for a particular candidate is not cool.

If you think that makes me a "comment police chief," whatever.

Idlewild's picture

Thanks for the change

Yes, it's better (it's accurate).

If the rumor turns out to be true, the title can always be changed to reflect that.

mrbronco's picture

You Could Have Said It Privately

The problem I have with it is that I don't think anyone would've thought anything of it until you pointed it out! Also I made some valid remarks in my comment and you don't even mention anything about that. You could have said to me, privately, that maybe I should change that.

Also it says "you would be" not "you are an idiot".

mrbronco's Xombyte

Idlewild's picture

Huh?

You don't think dr2dr or champagnedreams would notice that you basically called them idiots?

I'm not taking issue with your legitimate arguments, just with your use of the word idiot to refer to someone who disagrees with you.

"You could have said to me, privately, that maybe I should change that."

You could have said privately to dr2dr or champagne that you thought they were idiots, instead of posting it here for all to see.

It's not my job to PM people to and suggest changes to them. You've been on Xomba long enough to know what is and isn't appropriate. Besides, you posted your "idiot" comment for all to see, so it was totally appropriate for me to respond to it in public.

'Also it says "you would be" not "you are an idiot".'
Well, that makes it all better, doesn't it! (not)

And now I will take Nick's advice and step away from this thread. We have both made our points and there is no reason to continue the back-and-forth, especially since it has nothing to do with Sarah Palin.

The title was accurate when posted

The title was accurate when posted, I'm sorry they changed the content before you viewed it. The site was featured and the story were both reported on CNN and Fox news. They even showed the website. They also showed the drudge story too. But the change is fine and i understand why it was made. I will change it back when they put it back up.

Thanks for clarifying

The article just said "Wikipedia and other sources," and Wikipedia is notorious for having articles vandalized with incorrect info.

I would be surprised if legit sources would report something using sketchy info.

BTW, the Wiki now reads,
"On August 29, the Associated Press reported that "speculation [has] moved to [Palin as a] darkhorse" pick for the vice president running mate slot by presumptive Republican nominee John McCain.[2]'

Even that statement uses the words 'speculation' and 'dark horse.'

We'll find out who the real pick is pretty soon.

Fox News Confirms

Fox News Confirms. It was on wikipedia earlier and now it is on a major network. Congrats Sarah Palin.

Xomba Moderator's picture

Umm

Still not confirmed yet. Just looked at foxnews.com. I don't know what you're reading.

dr2dr's picture

I'm on satelite..perhaps you're on a cable system that is behind

Did you see cameron yet?

Xomba Moderator's picture

There It Is

It is on foxnews.com now.

Idlewild's picture

Hats off

to dr2dr.... though the initial claim was inaccurate, it's now been borne out.

Congrats on being the first on Xomba to report the pick ... you earn a +1 for having the news scoop of the day!

Now, if you have any tips on where the stock market is heading....

mrbronco's picture

Obviously You Were Wrong

The initial claim was NOT "inaccurate". It was dead on.

Good job dr2dr!

Palin

The original headline claimed that Palin was the pick when in fact the pick had not been made public. That is inaccurate.

Mrbronco, I'm flattered that you're spending so much of your Friday communicating with me. It's touching.

My Pleasure....

It's always a pleasure to deal with you Idle.

3000 Guests?

Something is hitting and I'm guessing it has to do with the VP picks.

Women are minorities?

"This country seems so bent on putting a minority "somewhere" in the ticket that they forgot to worry about who can do the best job."

Women are minorities? Call me crazy, but in my world they make up half the population...

champagnedreams's picture

I Agree With MrBronco

Way to go dr2dr. Good Job! You hit the nail on the head.

champagnedreams's picture

I don't think

that's what mrbronco meant. I think it was a more general comment. I am not offended at all.
