Senior Year

Sometimes life seems to be moving at top speed, you can’t control it and by the time we stop to take a look around times traveled so fast that we feel lost. What happened to our innocence, when life used to be easy? Remember when nothing in the world mattered. The days when we used to dress up in our mothers pink satin gowns with their large high heals on and pink lipstick smeared upon our small precious lips. When we used to imagine that our stuffed teddy bear was our prince and the life that lied ahead would be simply ideal. I remember those moments when the world looked enormous yet the possibilities were endless. Stop and take a look around!
By the time we actually stop to take a look around and reality sets in, nothing turns out as you imagined it would have. Our high school boyfriends, who we were convinced we were going to marry, have moved on and will probably marry someone completely opposite of us. Our best friends have become complete strangers and only remember who we “used to be”. The person we have become has metamorphosed into the person we never thought we would be. Yet the past hold a certain comfort in our hearts, the life of simplicity. Now we come to realize that life isn’t what we ever thought it was going to be, it certainly wasn’t supposed to be hard, stressful, or scary. When you’re growing up your parents always think positively and never inform you about the troubles that will lie ahead. They only hide you from the truth to protect you from harm by telling you everything is going to be alright. Shamefully we look back and realize how naive we have been. All the while we were playing dress up in our rooms, believing that the world was perfect, our parents were downstairs facing the world, struggling protecting are innocence. I am writing this piece in a transition stage of my life. I now realize that not everything in life is supposed to be easy, but once the hard times past a calming will set in knowing that we have surpassed what we thought was impossible. During the hard times we might want to go back to being the little girl sitting in her mothers heels, until we realize we have grown up to be strong independent women. Finally, we thank our protective family, because without them we would not have been able to conquer the on the world and grow realizing we have become content with who we have became.

I think you have a healthy

I think you have a healthy perspective on life. As a parent, I tell my kids they'll face both good and bad as they go through life. But because it is often unpredictable, I spare them details of some of the unpleasant possibilities. After all they're just that: possibilities. I hope they understand they'll inevitably face tough times and at the same time, enjoy being kids. Thanks for sharing this. Flyswatter Xomba Moderator
