Because a desk job is boring.

Because I am my own boss.

Because I control the outcome.

Because I can make anything happen with my pen.

Because I can cross things out, and start all over.

Because I can change an ending.

Because I can change a beginning.

Because I can see myself in a bookstore.

Because I can do it from home.

Because I can do it from a park bench. In the fall. In the spring. In the summer.

Because I can do it fireside. With hot chocolate.

Because I never wanted to be an astronaut or a movie star.

Because I can write a story in which I am an astronaut or a movie star.

Because stories are often better than real life.

Because it is my escape from reality.

Because writing is power.

Because it’s a little selfish. But it’s allowed to be. Because it’s my dream.
