Sex During Pregnancy
Sex During Pregnancy
Sex during Pregnancy is pretty much one of the first thing that crosses a couples minds, when they find out that they are pregnant is whether they will be able to enjoy sex like they used to. It’s not always known, whether the couple can enjoy sex throughout the duration of the pregnancy.
Some couples think that being pregnant will put an end to any sexual activity. However being pregnant doesn’t necessarily have to stop the couple enjoying sex. Most people are actually confused, as to whether sex during pregnancy is allowed.
Pregnancy does obviously change the woman’s body. Let’s take a look at how the pregnancy begins, this occurs when the sperm from the man fertilizes the egg. This fertilized egg develops into an embryo, and then onto a fetus.
To protect the fetus a cavity develops known as the amniotic cavity. This cavity is filled with fluid and is designed to supply the fetus with all of the nutrients required for normal development. Multiple pregnancies would cause problems, and so this is avoided by the cervix being blocked up by mucus.
So now you know that changes do affect the woman’s uterus, nature protects the baby from the outside world so you don’t need to worry.
Many people don’t think that sex is possible when a woman is pregnant, well actually the opposite is true. There is absolutely no problem having sex while the woman is pregnant. There is no way that the sperm can come into contact with the baby, because it is sealed off. The embryo cannot be dislodged, because of this mucus layer also.
When having sex during pregnancy you must:
- Avoid putting pressure on the stomach.
- Adopt suitable positions.
- Talk to your doctor if you experience any pain.
- Not do it if you are a high risk pregnancy.
Obviously the woman’s stomach will get big, and so you should think about the sexual positions that you use. You should avoid using the missionary position, because this places a lot of pressure on the stomach, and so the uterus. Nobody should lie on top of one another during sex when pregnant.
Any position which avoids putting undue pressure upon the stomach is considered safe and acceptable.
You should consult with your doctor if you are at all concerned. Sometimes sex during pregnancy depends on previous factors, for example if the woman has already had a premature baby, then the doctor maybe would suggest avoiding sexual intercourse within the last 3 months of pregnancy. Any woman who has suffered from miscarriages should be careful having sex for the first 3 months of pregnancy.
There are some people that should abstain from sex right through the pregnancy, these are women that have a short cervix. This can be identified with a sonography test.
Pregnancy can make the couple want more sex, but it can also stop them wanting sex. This completely depends upon the couple in question. Some women may be too busy thinking about their baby, to think about sex. A woman may even be scared of her body once it has changed, and so it’s the man’s responsibility, to convince the woman that there’s nothing to be scared of.
If it is too difficult to have sex for any reason then there are always alternatives. Mutual masturbation can be a very exhilarating activity for both people. This is where both people touch one another’s genitals to make them excited.
There are no problems with oral sex, and of course anal sex is another option, but only do the kind of sex both parties enjoy.
