Shared Dellusion Ramble

It's that time of year again, THE HOLIDAY SEASON.

Black Friday is just about over and it got me to thinking, just how much thought had you put into what the "holiday's" are?

Since it's really just the token attention given to Thanksgiving through the marketing wet dream that is Christmas, I'll only worry about those for now.

THANKSGIVING

Let's all celebrate the day we stopped directly killing native american's and started doing it with disease. Yay turkey! Yay football, wait they didn't have football. Yay thank god, wait, whose god? The Quakers who got here in the first place, or pick one of the native gods? No, we're not in that mode now right? There's only one god, and he's on our side!! Or something like that according to the 11:00 news anyway.

CHRISTMAS

Since it's easier to manipulate than kill, thus christmas was born. Take a bunch of pegan sun worshipers, add a dash of the crusades of a sort, and you get one of their holiday's with a new face. Think Buddy Christ if you will. Incidently, 100 years ago, nobody in this country, yes THIS country the U.S. of A., celebrated Christmas. It wasn't until a marketer somewhere got the idea to promote it with a big fat guy in a red suit that it began to take off.

Enjoy the shared dellusion folks. There's nothing worng with having your egg nog and drinking it too, just spare me the "what it means" moments.

Yeah in general you are probably right. I can see how it would have been a compromise a hundred years ago, and still is today. www.joesnare.com

I'm uaually a pretty

I'm uaually a pretty positive guy really. I just enjoy poking fun at those that want to try to make us believe Christmas in particular, is this joyous, religous thing of beauty. All I see is folks stressing out about spending money alot of them don't have in the first place. Historicly, Christmas did start out as a means to convert pegans into Christianity. Because of that, it wasn't really widely followed being a kind of compromise between both sides. You can Google christmas history for more detailed info but thats the general idea. Really, though, if it ever was seen as a religiously important day, that all went away a long time ago, and probably on sale.

Scrooge + Grinch = Scrinch

And that's what I'm gonna call you. Actually this made me laugh, I hope you're not this cynical all the time but it is good and even funny to have our delusions challenged once in a while. But since you brought up football, I will have to penalize you 15 yards and one Xomba point for exaggeration: "Nobody" celebrated Christmas in America prior to 1906?!? You mean none of the immigrants brought their holidays with them from the old country? Sounds pretty suspicious to me. But it's not a bad post overall. www.joesnare.com
