Shatner or Palin: Who gave the better speech?...REALLY? Do we need to re-educate our citizens to become critical thinkers?
posted July 29, 2009 - 10:55amI was just reading articles in response to Sarah Palin's recent resignation speech to Alaska, as well as reviewing video footage of her speech and the very hillarious rendition by William Shatner. I also had the privilege of leaving behind my two cents in response to a poll that one site was doing: Which was a better speech - - Palin's or Shatner's. I just had to also post it here, as I think it needs to be reiterated that these two speeches do not serve the same purposes. Yes, Shatner's rendition was VERY FUNNY, but it is not a reflection of her speech in its entirety. I am so tired of how the media hacks just about anything Palin says. Also, unfortunately, most people in our country are suckers for what the media says. Sadly, most of our citizens are bought hook, line and sinker by the media. Too many don't realize that this is just part of her speech. How many people actually took the time to find out, for themselves, exactly what she said, in her full speech? I'm tired of the media cutting her off. She is trying to communicate that she is stepping down so that Alaska's money is not wasted on law suits that will most likely be unfounded. (And even if there is some truth to the investigations going on, she is still saving Alaska money - - not what we could say for Obama's own state of Illinois, where Blagoivich (sp?) continued to deny the obvious, and did not want to step down). I admire her for her integrity in this world full of people who take the media for all its words, instead of being critical thinkers. It's scary how much people buy into every word the media offers, and that they don't look into things for themselves. People need to have their own minds, and that's what I admire about Palin. Comparing these two speeches is like comparing apples to oranges. One is comedy, and one is simply a speech delivered by the former Alaskan governer. Both were very well delivered, for the purposes intended. One was to entertain, and one was to declare. Do we need to re-educate our adult citizens on how to become critical thinkers? I hope not!
