Shootings at Fort Hood May Highten PTSD Symptoms in Combat Veterans

Those who suffer from PTSD could experience a rise in their symptoms due to the recent shootings at Fort Hood, Texas. This could be especailly true for military soldiers who have seen combat.

Some of the symptoms that may be triggered by a horrific event such as this might be, depression, unexplained fear, nightmares, hypervigillence, flashbacks to disturbing events, numbing of feelings, helpless and hopeless about the future. They may become angered easily, feel guilty that they survived and their fellow soldiers did not, and an iInability to adjust to normal circumstances. They may self-medicate with drinking or drugs.
