Shopping for a digital camera can be confusing especially if this is your first camera and you don’t know what to look for or if you should by any accessories with you camera. Here are some guidelines that will help you in your decision.

First determine if you want a small camera or a large camera with interchangeable lenses much like the old 35mm cameras. You can also add an external flash with these types of cameras. The Canon EOS 400D is an example of a large camera.

Do your shopping online because you will get the best deals. If you want to buy your camera in a store then do your research online.

Shop on sites that have user comments posted about the cameras you are interested in. User comments will be a good way of judging if you may encounter problems with that particular camera you want to buy.

Look for a camera that has anywhere from 6 to 10 megapixels. This will give you a nice sharp print.

Make sure the camera has an optical zoom of 3x or better. Don’t go by what the electronic zoom is, as this is not a true zoom and will give you a fuzzy picture.

Buy a camera that has built in rechargeable batteries. Also check to see if the manufacture offers a higher power battery that will last longer between charges.

Always buy an additional memory module with higher storage. The one that comes with the camera is always too small and will limit the number of high resolution pictures you can take.

Tip: Don’t buy any additional accessories at this time until you have your camera for a while and completely happy with its performance.

I wish I knew then...

I have two digital camera's, I wish I had read your article when I bought the first one two years ago. I like it, but wasn't ready for it...the second one is much better for my needs and way less expensive. It's never too late to learn something new. great article +1.
