Shopping a pain in the Tukus
posted September 21, 2006 - 1:47amOk first let me establish I am a woman and as a woman I have always totally detested shopping. I loathe it with a passion.
I go only because it is a necessary evil.
When I shop I try and take a list of the places I have to go and and try and make my trip into town count and to get down as fast as possible but efficantly.
I hate the traffic, the noise, stupid drivers that don't know what a green light is or a stop sign. The stores are full of people and in summer and holiday day season there are numerous, loud, rude children. Parents don't make kids behave at all or few do anyway. Once in awhile you see a family with well behaved kids but not often.
Stores seem to change their shelving arrangements every so often and so when you about know where everything is so you can get in, get what you need and get out. They mess it up and change it. They put what used to be on the top shelf at the bottom and the bottom at the top or in some other aisle. Another thing that irritates is the downsizing. Less for more money.
Some things I just plain don't buy anymore at all. Recently in the last couple of years stores have ceased to carry some items except during the holiday season. One item is bitter dry cocoa. How stupid, I use it all year long. Another thing they stopped carrying anymore is "Sorgum Syrup" No it is NOT molasses, Molasses is totally differnt. You can get it on the internet but it now really expensive.
It wasn't because there was no demand for it, there was, It was often sold out. It was because someone decided they did not want to order it anymore. They didn't know what it was so why order it. Because a lot of us 1939-1960 folks still use it and like it. But some wet behind the ears punk new manager decided we did not need it anymore because there is all kinds of molasses.
One such tried to tell me that brer rabbit Molasses was the same as Sorgum syrup. I wanted to grab his ear and say "LISTEN UP SONNY BOY, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT" He was a punk and moronic to boot, he finally asked someone older who said well Sonny boy the new manager decided they did not need it any more so they stopped getting it. Now it has become internet available all because of Sonny boy punks who don't know a GOOD thing when they see it.
Then there is clothe shopping. Yeah I go when I must. But If I want a red drindle skirt. I most definatly am not going to settle for some A Line off pink or purple one or anything else. Don't got what I want I am outta there. I will look elsewhere. Internet if need usually find what I want there.
The problem with the internet is you often need a credit card and I no longer have one. Hubby decided they were not something we need anymore. Sometimes my daughter will get something if I cannot find it any where and I pay her the cash.
As to Jewelry diamonds might be SOME women's best friend, NOT me I think they are plain UGLY!. I prefer Rubies, Emeralds or Sapphires. NO Thanks no diamonds and as to gold, I think silver is much prettier and lasts longer.
Shopping is really tiring, the concrete floors make my feet hurt and I have to walk up and down miles of aisles to get everything I want or need. Contending with people who want to gossip in the aisle, or some stocker with piles of boxes in the aisle during peak shopping times, which is really moronic. Or bratty kids running up the aisles screaming while mom is three Aisles over screaming at the little demons to get back here or they will get what for.
When my kids were little like that they KNEW better than to even THINK they could get away with it and What for was not a threat it was immedate and I didn't let them have anything they thought they must have to shut them up. If need I left the grocery cart in the aisle and we had a visit to the car where matters where quickly explained with a hard hand on bottoms.
I hated shopping even as a kid, my mom hated shopping with me. I knew what I wanted and I would not settle for second or third best. I would wait. I might consider something else if I saw it was better but not inferior to my expectations. To many people settle and get intimidated. I don't. I walk out and search elsewhere.
Another thing is the sales, "while quanities last" Okay. Quanities tell me they have a lot on hand, not one or two. That is simply misleading and false advertisement. Some stores have done that and sold the one or two to store employees before the store opened. Then tried to do a bait and switch thing with we have this model for ONLY $100 more. They do that and I don't shop there EVER again. One such store did that they have a bullseye logo. I have not set foot in that store since 2000 and won't ever go there again.
Had a similar problem with a well known chain burger joint too and have not been in one of them since 1971.
I think I would like the day when a peddler came by or maybe got to one store that had about anything I really needed and what I didn't I grew.
Holiday seasons are really bad, I try and avoid town and shopping as much as possible at those times. The stores are crowded, people are mean, things that were $10.00 cheaper in September are $10.00 higher in December and they knock of $1.00 and say it is on SALE???.. YEAH RIGHT! People are wishing you a merry whatever like EVERYONE should celebrate their especial holiday. They have foisted this holiday greeting on many for several decades who don't observe the holidays. Now they think people who are fighting back about it are spoiling it for them. I like the newer greetings they are not about one specific Holiday. Not even all "CHRISTIAN" Groups keep such holidays.
Then there is the weather, I hate the snow and ice and cold. sloshing through wet dirty snow to the store and out again. With beggers ringing bells and surly when I don't drop a dime in. Don't they realize I might not have one to spare? Not everyone shopping is loaded with bucks or has a good job.
Summer shopping is the least stressful weather wise and holiday wise and even kid wise, though many are out of school they are at the local swimming pools. I still don't like it but I can get down faster and home sooner.
So as far as I am concerned contrary to popular belief. NOT all women like to go shopping.
