A Short 'Once Upon a Time' Story
posted November 5, 2009 - 5:39pm
I love stories. I love all kinds of stories, and the more variety I have, the better. Still, most of my favorites stories start with the words “Once upon a time.” As a kid, I would read my big book of Fairy
Tales over and over again, and truth be told, I still like to read them today (for educational purposes, of course). Reading and telling stories to kids are also fun activities, and I would highly recommend this to anyone who has a little munchkin available as an audience. On the other hand, sometimes, you just don’t feel up to the task. “Tell me a story. I want another story. When are you going to start the story?” Goodness, it’s enough to drive you crazy sometimes. When that happens, I have a little story I love to tell. It almost always brings a laugh, and maybe a wrinkled brow or two in feigned anger from your child. But it is fun for all. Here is what I say.
Once upon a time.
They all lived happily ever after.
The end.
So, put it all together and you get. Once upon a time, they all lived happily ever after, the end. It’s short and sweet, and to the point. And, it is a story.
Of course, your kids will never accept that as the whole story, and you will eventually (after much protesting) have to fill in the blanks a bit, adding Princes and Damsels and maybe a dragon or two. But if nothing else, it should bring a smile to your face. The End.
