The Shrine at Altamira - book review

This is, perhaps, my all time favorite book. John L'Heureux figuratively pulls your heart out in this book. It is the saddest, most gut wretching book I have ever read. Your emotions will be raw after reading this book. It is the story of love gone completely wrong. It is the only modern-day tragedy I have ever read. There is no happily ever after; nothing that even resembles that phrase so do not expect it. It is wonderfully written and thus the reason you feel for all the characters. It is a short book of only 272 pages. The words on those pages will live with you forever.
I won't give away any more of the plot because it is better that you read it and be surprised than have it given away. Again, be ready, it is a tragedy. Those of you waiting and wanting the "white knight moment" to come swooping in will be sorely disappointed.
I literally took a chance on this book one day in a book store. I saw the cover and was interested so I picked it up and read the first couple of pages. I realized I had to have this book. Unfortuately it no longer resides in my collection as I lent it to friend who never returned it/lost it. I refuse to buy it again hoping that this friend will one day replace it. We'll see.

oh yes
this book will haunt you. It is not a boy meets girl, they get married, boy loses girl type tragedy that is just merely sad. This is OMG I cannot believe that happened. Even if it had a happy ending (I don't know how but just maybe he could've pulled it off) it still would have been the most painful book I have ever read. I always recommend this book because it is well written and because everyone expects their stories to be tied up in a neat little ball at the end. Well, life sometimes doesn't work out that way. Bad things happen. Very bad things.

Maybe not for me?
I don't do tragedy too well - it makes me physically upset. I saw this movie of a bunch of shorts called Paris Je t'Aime and there were two vignettes that still make me tear up all this time later.
