Simple Things You Can Do to Help Save Mother Earth

There are many simple things that can be done by you and your family to help save out mother earth.

Put on more clothes. When you turn up the heat on really cold days your furnace is probably burning fossil fuels. Layering your clothing will keep you warmer and help conserve precious resources.

Take Seconds. Recycling is isn’t just about separating cans, bottles, newspapers etc. It also means using things a second time. For example, if you get a nice padded envelope in the mail, instead of throwing it away take off the label and use it again.

No paper, no plastic. Purchase some of the excellent re-usable shopping bags that you can find at most grocery stores. They are heavy-duty and hold many items. These bags will last for years to come.

BYOB. In just the last year Americans used 50 million plastic water bottles. Many of the plastic bottles have ended up in our landfills. Try buying re-usable plastic bottles, such as Nalgene bottles. Wash and fill the re-usable bottles after each use.

Plant a tree. Trees are great for so many things. Trees are beautiful and provide wind block. Trees also provide a lot of oxygen for everyone to enjoy. Planting trees will also provide needed habitat for birds, squirrels and many other small creatures

Thanks for the comment prism!

I agree with you completely about the reusable grocery bags :) They are so great, and they only cost 1-$2.50- a great deal! I also enjoy using them for rummage sailing.

Reusable Grocery Bags

I finally broke down and bought enough of these for our typical grocery shopping. I avoided it for a long time figuring I would never remember to bring them with me but I kick myself now! I love them! They don't rip, hold a lot more, and don't fall over and lose the cans all over the van like the plastic bags. I have surprised myself about always remembering to bring them with me to the store and also keep a couple in the van for those unexpected stops for just a couple things at the store on the way home. Everyone should switch to these! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Earn for Your Writing on Xomba Earn for Your Writing on Bukisa Check Out My Writing on Bukisa

Waste Not Want Not!

If only we frequently asked ourselves the difference by definition between "I Need" and "I Want". This is a great reminder thank you... We have cut our monthly bills by around 40% by managing what we buy. Food, energy or luxuries, whilst probably doing our bit to save the planet at the same time... The Sun is shining here and hope it is where you are too.. Alethea

Live simply so that others may simple live

The best thing we can do for ourselves and for our environment is to "live simple". We have been conditioned to believe that we need more things and our lives are often spent in pursuit of making more money and acquiring more things. If we just change our mindset that we don't "need" all this stuff and just work around what we really need to live, we will send the message to the corporations that destroying the environment in the name of crass consumerism is not okay.
