PROPOSAL FOR CABINET: 20% raise over pay bands suggested by Pay Commission effective from Jan 2006; arrears to be paid in cash, 40% this year, the rest next year.

The new pay package for the 55 lakh Central government employees, to be announced on August 15, proposes a 20 per cent raise over the pay bands suggested by the Commission.
