Slick Willie and His Oil and Gas Buddies are to Blame. And yes, Al Gore, too.

Slick Willie and His Oil and Gas Buddies are to blame.  And yes, Al Gore, too.

Yes, I like Windmills and Solar.  But for Civilization, and Our Species Future . . . I like Nuclear.  Generation Four Nuclear, the Integral Fast Reactor (IFR)

Those of you who have read of my climate concerns, by now, must realize that AGW has some political traction – even if you do not think global warming is happening.  The U S House passed the American Clean Energy and Security (ACES) climate bill and the U S Senate is soon going to get their chance to milk your Future for their benefit as they work on something to keep themselves elected via Big Carbon contributions with lip service carefully crafted to play to both positions on Global Warming.

In the nuclear arena, Slick Willie and his oil and gas buddies are much to blame for the abandonment of your future.  But the Bushes were worse. They promoted oil and interfered with the science.  Obama seems intent on forsaking the facts and milking the Coal Lobby in so far as they support his agenda.  His G-8 participation was not notable, really.

The Bush bunch is and was involved and they are and were the minions of all the Big Carbon fossil fuel profiteers.  Obama is capable and can articulate the compassion of a new face, a promising future, and could become an important part of the future of the species and the planet.  But it remains to be seen if he can do the necessary tasks.   Our species does not have unlimited opportunities to deal with Carbon in the Air.  If we miss this one, and it seems the Fossil Carbon interests have succeeded in diluting the necessary steps, there will be billions of deaths directly related to what they do.  It is like the use of Zyklon B at Auschwitz, but slower and less direct.

To understand the American Clean Energy and Security (ACES) climate  bill’s short-comings, refer to this lengthy article by Steve Kirsch, first published on The Huffington Post.

http://bravenewclimate.com/2009/07/01/brave-new-power-for-the-world/

As Kirsch states, it doesn’t matter if you ascribe to Global Warming or not, the energy available within our existing nuclear waste [in the US]  is more than 10 times the amount of energy in all the un-mined coal – and that is the easily extractable energy content.  Enough says Kirsch to power the planet for 700 years at our current energy consumption rate.

Yes, I like windmills.  Yes, I like solar.  Yes.  But I really like Nuclear.

I had a comment here. But xomba reads this as it is composed

and a burp wiped out my like of nukes.

Government runs them not a contractor.  Dedicated military units can do the secure stuff, but the 4th gen fission cleans the stuff up.

really.

NO PROFIT MOTIVE.

Really?

I'm old CND and tend to lump Nuclear anything into one big disaster waiting to happen.  Thoughts of what the Bushes et al could do with Nuclear to bring about more immediate horrors are even more worrying than their legacy.  How would you safeguard?
