Smoking may ovetake obesity on risk for cancer

Smoking can cause cancer, but this cancer causing habit may be overtaken by obesity. From the Reuters report, during the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Dr. Walter C. Willett from the Harvard School of Public Health, obesity is currently linked to about 14 percent of cancer deaths in men and 20 percent in women as compared to about 20 percent in women. Research shows and increasing evidence which associates obesity with cancers of the liver, colorectal, pancreas, gallbladder and breast. Based on estimate, 30 percent to 35 percent of cancers are due to eating and nutritional factors often associated with obesity.

Thanks for the additional information

I am sorry if it took me time to reply to your comment. I have visited your xombyte and found it very interesting. I also addend some points for it since its really fascinating. Are you from Netherlands? I was actually there last 2000 of June. I had my search and rescue training as well as firefighting training in Hofdorf and at the Amsterdam Fire Department.

Here is an interesting fact

The Department of Public Health, Netherlands reported in 1997 that smokers have more diseases that nonsmokers but nonsmokers live longer and can incur more health costs at advanced ages. For a given age smokers can cost 40 percent more in health care cost than nonsmokers and if all smokers quit today health care costs would be lower at first but after 15 years they would be higher than at present. http://www.xomba.com/lets_go_beat_up_some_smokers
