So did McCain throw the race?

So did McCain throw the race?

So just wonderin' out loud here - Do you think that McCain is trying to intentionally throw the race? I do. I mean c'mon he really couldn't find another, better, strong, faster (sorry channeling my inner Oscar Goldman) candidate for Vice President than Sarah Palin. To quote Seth Meyers from SNL "really?". Is he really dumb enough to think that just because she is a woman she is going to pull Hillary voters? When her and Hillary couldn't be more different? Or is he pandering to the far right of the Republican party? Did he really think the scandals in her background were going to serve him and her well? Did he think that maybe he could put her up on a cross when the media attacked? Did he think the media wouldn't attack? Did he think that it would be good for her and her family to put her daughter in the media spotlight?

My opinion is that McCain is takin' a dive. I don't know why. Maybe health, maybe polical pressure, maybe he decided he just doesn't want the job. Then again maybe he is rope-a-doping us. We'll see.

I know I'm insane

I know I'm insane but all I think McCain has done is rally the conservative base that wasn't going to vote for Obama anyway. I'm not a big believer in polls. Their samples are usually so small that I don't find that they are indicative of what they are trying to say. Literally I've seen polls where they polled 1000 people and are saying this is the trend. I know the science behind it but maybe I'm hard headed.

If he was trying to throw the election

It may have backfired on him. For some reason I'm reminded of the movie The Producers. Here's what I think: McCain knew that picking a woman would controversial, seen as pandering, and might just backfire. Then he would have someone to blame when he lost the election. However, he also gambled that Palin would breath life into his campaign, and rally the religious right to him. He threw the dice with his VP pick. So far, it's been working out for him.

Throwing the race?

I have to agree with Publius (somewhat, at least). The Palin choice has brought McCain's campaign crowds that were much larger and more enthusiastic than ever before, and only part of that is because she's a woman. Conservatives who were leery of McCain's credentials are now deciding to back him because of his choice of Palin (which doesn't really make a lot of sense to me, since a VP doesn't necessarily change the policies of the person at the top of the ticket). McCain's support among white women is way up since he picked Palin. Of course, this may be temporary. At some point McCain's handlers have to let Palin talk to the press, and she's got to master a lot of subjects in a short amount of time in order to do that without looking like she's in over her head in terms of knowledge and experience. And of course there's the matter of the 'troopergate' story, her changing stand on the bridge to nowhere, etc. And some people may decide they don't like her so much when/if they find out more about her stands on abortion, etc. We'll have to see what happens. It looks like a good choice for McCain so far, but anything can happen.

Taking a dive? Have you seen

Taking a dive? Have you seen the polls this week? He received a bigger convention bounce than Obama and is now in the lead. Fundraising over the last two weeks has been huge for McCain/Palin. And what are the "scandals"? The only one that comes even remotely close is the so-called "Troopergate" investigation, which will most likely go nowhere. The man that was fired (Monegan) has consistently said that Sarah Palin did not pressure him to fire Wooten. All the other ones you're hearing about are utter BS. The librarian fiasco, the "racism" that Palin openly demonstrates, her pregnant daughter, creationism in schools...there's nothing there and/or these stories are irrelevant. So, the base is motivated, fundraising has increased dramatically, the polls have shifted, in reality she doesn't have any skeletons to hide...how is this "throwing the race"? *If you're interested in reading my articles, Click Here.
