so... how was YOUR holiday?
posted January 3, 2007 - 8:42pmahh... december madness! throughout every culture & across every age there has been a festival of excess mid-winter to get us all fattened up for the long winter to come. & nowadays... you'll never go broke if you can get people to listen to you lecture them about what to
do to avoid enjoying themselves in any way.
me? we don't celebrate christmas 'round here. my boy was born on december 22 & the one thing i learned from my few friends born around the 25th is that it sucks.
so my father-in-law & i set up a half-birthday celebration in june & i hung ornaments up 'round the house to make it xmas all year round.
& despite my best efforts to ignore the whole xmas season, i was finally lured out to spend a new year's weekend with the ex-wife & her new husband. in hindsight, it was wise not to expect it to end well... but everything up 'til the last coupla hours was very nice.
which invariably summarizes everyone else's december madness, most times. there's a handful of hyper-organized people who have christmas present bought, wrapped, tagged & delivered by halloween, but it's usually best not to know anyone like that.
& for a first time venturing out to spend some time with the boy & his new family... it was a lovely time. nice break from the city life. getting into the channel islands is an ordeal, but bcferries is as competent as any other gov't organization.
which has me back in vancouver... back behind the bar... 2006 is finally over... & now, it's 007, baby! you thought it was great living through the turn of the millenium? imagine those of us old enough to remember going to see the new SEAN CONNERY james bond flicks AND living large in 007!
more lists... more sports on the tv (like the sugar bowl on at the moment. fighting f^$king irish, dude.)... more time with the boy.
happy new year, gang!
