With mileage of 80 mpg or more, a scooter can obviously save you money at the gas pump. But there are other factors to consider before your rush out and make that purchase:

How long will it take to break even?
What is your current car's gas mileage?
How safe are scooters where you will be diving?
How many miles per week do you drive?
Will you be able to sell your car and only drive (ride really) the scooter?

Also, carpooling is now out of the question as is running down to Circuit City or Best Buy for a new TV or VCR.

I rode a motorcycle exclusively (no car at all) for several years and I definitely had to give up some of the comforts that a car offers.
