Some Good News for Search Engine Optimization

On October 5, 2009 I started an SEO Experiment on my blog. I had been reading about link wheels and search engine optimization over the preceding weekend and came up with an idea. My idea was to create a blog post and try to optimize it using a link wheel so that it would show up on the first page of Google.

I decided to try and rank for the search term “SEO Experiment”. I did this since there were only about 24,000 pages to compete against. I also selected that particular keyword phrase since it seemed appropriate for an experiment on search engine optimization and would not spur a lot of copycats since there are only 320 monthly searches and the CPC is only $0.05.

Well here it is 17 days later, and last night I found that I had made it to page 1 in the fifth position. I couldn’t believe it! I thought it would take months and months. I have been following the progress in my blog (to which you can link in my profile) and had been all over the place. I even spent time in the so-called “sandbox”. Most recently I had been hanging out around position number 285. I don’t pretend to know all the how’s and why’s of SEO, but I think it has been quite an interesting experiment.

Be sure to check out my blog and follow my progress on making income online. Xomba is a big part of the picture.

Google Adwords

I used the Google Adwords Keyword Tool.  It will tell you how much the average CPC (cost per click) is to an advertiser.

I write a little about it here:  http://hubpages.com/hub/Finding-High-CPC-Keywords-Using-Google-Adwords

Be sure to check out some of my other articles at HubPages as well for lots of good information.
