Sony blu ray s500 dvd player didn't play my new Kung fu panda disc

I just got the new Kung Fu Panda blu ray movie, for my kids. I was excited for them to watch it. Now I have played many movies on the player and it was hooked up fine and everything was working. It took a while for the movie to load. I did not think anything if it. I was pressing buttons on the remote to get it to play and finally got to the trailers and the opening Dream Works front page. The Dream works page looked great, on my large Mitsubishi DLP rear projection TV. Everything looked crisp and very clean on the blu ray.

The movie finally loads and it was the pg rating (the PG trailer showed) and then the player stopped and shut off. I didn't know why. I tried it again and the same thing happened. I quickly found the manual. The manual said nothing. I checked the extra papers in the packet the came with the blu ray player and the was a single sheet, " NOTE about Interactive Capability of BD-J ( BD-JAVA )". and gave a website- www.sony.com/blurayupadte or call 1-866-909-7669.

I went to the site and found the update for my blu ray player. They have all of the blue ray players at this site. (BDP-S1, BDP-S300, BDP-S301, BDP-S350, BDP-S500, BDP-S2000ES and BDP-BX1). You can download the firmware updates here.

I read the entire page, downloaded the patch into a new folder on my desk top. Then I needed to burn an image CD ROM. I used a software program the most people should have - Veritas Record Now DX ver 4.6. I clicked the Image button and dropped the file into the empty space where it said "Disc Image File". and hit the red burn button. The CD was ready in 5 minutes.

The directions told me to put it into the DVD player and close the tray. It does everything automatically.

It worked like a champ. if you don't have a way to down load and burn a disc just call the phone number or use the link on the instructions to order a CD with all of the Firm ware updates.

I would recommend that every one update the firmware on their blue rays players every couple of months. I would also not buy a player that is not able to be upgrade (firmware) easily.
