spicing things up
posted September 6, 2006 - 3:00amSimple question. How many different herbs and spices have you tried?
If you have a spice rack in your kitchen then you are off to a good start. If you have 2 or 3 of them each containing different ones, or even a spice cabinet like me then you a connoisseur
A spice cabinet?
Oh I have a small one that holds about 30 - 40 tightly capped containers and jars of these leafy prized possessions.
One of my goals is to have a walk in closet with shelves and shelves of herbs and spices and teas housed in all sorts of interesting glass jars looking more like a mad scientist's lab or apothecary shop than a kitchen cabinet.
What? You had no idea there are so many herbs and spices. Yes there are.
There are those used for cooking, spice blends and meat rubs, medicinal herbs, spices, herbal teas and even those used for cosmetics. There are even herbs you use for crafting and making sachets and potpourris and even bath teas.
I believe I am going to need a bigger closet.
Anyway the question is how many have you actually tried?
I have a really cool idea. Get yourself a basic cookbook or even research it online. Look up some herbs and their uses and make it a point to try a new herb or spice every month or so or find new ways to use the ones you are already familiar with. Spice things up a bit by trying something new.
