St. Patrick's Day Kids Craft Ideas
posted January 21, 2008 - 9:41amIt's aways fun to celebrate St. Patrick's day. Here are a few craft ideas to make the day more fun and more special. These are some very easy little ideas that are always a big hit and always bring a lot of smiles to those that get to see and enjoy them. Even making them is just a fun thing to do alone or with your children.
Making A Shamrock Pin
This is an easy and simple St. Patrick's day craft idea that is fun to do with children.
Things you'll need:
-Green lollipops, flat
-Aluminum foil
-Twist tie
-Plastic wrap
-Green or white ribbon
-Tape
-and Safety pin
Here's how to make it:
1. Unwrap three green lollipops and lay them on a piece of aluminum foil. With the sides butting and the sticks overlapping, form a shamrock and secure it with a twist tie.
2. Next, cover the lollipops tightly with a circle of plastic wrap and twist the excess wrap around the sticks. Tie a length of narrow green or white ribbon into a bow around the twist tie.
3. Use a strong piece of tape to attach a large safety pin to the back of the top lollipop.
Variations:
For a longer-lasting but non edible pin, unwrap the lollipops and paint them with white glue or polyurethane. Insert the lollipops into a potato half so they stand free when drying. Then arrange the dried lollipops on foil to form the shamrock. Squeeze glue on the sticks where they overlap and allow to dry. Tie bows around the sticks, and add a safety pin to the shamrock's back.
Making a Lucky Charm Key chain
Things you'll need:
-Green polymer clay (one shade, or two partially blended to create a swirled effect)
-Paper clip
Here's how to make it:
1. Roll three 1-inch-thick balls out of clay. Mold each ball into a heart-shaped leaflet, then smoosh together the pointed ends until they stick.
2. Set one end of a paper clip atop the joined points (the other end should extend out as a stem would) and press a flattened bit of clay over it to seal it in.
3. Now turn the shamrock over and etch a center crease in each leaflet with a pencil.
4. Bake the clay according to the manufacturer's directions. Once the charm is cool, slide the paper clip end onto a split key ring.
Making a Magic Treasure Box
Things you'll need:
-empty shoe box or tissue box
-glitter
-glue
-stickers
-other misc. items of your choosing
Here's how to make it:
Decorate the empty box with the items above however you see fit! This is a great child's project!
When the box is dry, have the child set the box in his or her room and at night when the child is asleep, fill the box with little trinkets and toys or whatever he or she might like!
