Starbucks Changes Menu: Breaking News
posted January 3, 2007 - 1:21pmIn a bold move to improve public health (or at least public relations) ubiquitous coffee chain Starbucks has dropped artery-clogging trans fats from its food.
Starting today, all muffins and other baked goods sold in over half of the U.S. Starbucks locations will be entirely free of trans fats.
Trans fats, also known as partially hydrogented vegetable oil are suspected of raising cholesterol levels. The FDA has been cracking down on these high cholesterol fats.
Although a spokesman for the company stated that the company has been planning to make the menu changes for years, the move by Starbucks Corp. to ban trans fats comes on the heels of a move by the New York city government to ban these unhealthy fats in restaurants.
It is a move for healthier foods as well as a public relations and political move.
I just hope those Starbucks blueberry muffins don't change in taste too much. They taste like it takes a cube of butter for each one--I guess that will change.
But I guess it's for the best. Less trans fats in a diet is better for in the long run. I approve of the menu changes.
Yeah, like Starbucks cares.
