Starbucks to Cut 6,700 Jobs; Close 300 Stores
posted January 28, 2009 - 7:08pmThe economic downturn is still affecting Starbucks, and the chain announced today that it will close 300 stores (200 in the U.S.). This is in addition to the 600 stores it announced it would close last year.
If there's any comfort to the employees, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz is trying to share the pain: he has asked the company's board to cut his annual base pay to less than $10,000 (which is said to be the minimum needed for Schultz to keep benefits for himself and his family).
