STOP Saying BASICALLY
posted August 28, 2009 - 2:29am
If you start every sentence with the word BASICALLY you must stop it and stop it now!
If you can’t stop saying it, at least understand that you are very annoying to some people and others think you are
mentally challenged. Also understand that the word "basically" is almost completely useless. Take for example the two sentences below:
- The word basically is naff.
- Basically the word basically is naff.
See? Both sentences mean the same but the second sentence uses the naff overly regurgitated word – the subject of this short article – and, in so doing adds four syllables to a sentence of eight syllables. In other words, to use this awful word in the example above necessitates adding 50% more syllables. What a waste of time!
- A Talk Radio Hero
Once upon a time, many years ago, there was a Talk Radio host who would unceremoniously cut off anyone who uttered the four syllable B word. I loved him!
- Don’t Give Me That!
Some people uphold the B word as a “holding word”, meaning that people say it while they are thinking and deciding what to say. To you I say another B word (two syllables) ending with “locks” and the advice that superior thought takes place in silence.
