The Story Of King Alfred:The Original Trumpet Daffodil

The King Alfred trumpet daffodil was the first trumpet daffodil to be sold commercially and it caused quite a sensation when it was introduced in 1899. By the 1920s King Alfred, named after the medieval English King, was still loved by home gardeners even though better varieties were being developed.< p>

Even today gardeners and plant collectors want to grow the "real" King Alfred and there is much confusion over whether King Alfred bulbs being sold in the plant trade are authentic.

My article on All About Daffodils will hopefully clear up some of the myths and misconceptions of the famous King Alfred trumpet daffodil.

King Alfred Trumpet Daffodil

I love plant origin and history!  The stories behind many plants is so interesting.  How they got their names usually has a fascinating story too.  Great detail and interesting information.  Thanks!
