The Stupidity of Arguments Against Homosexuality
posted June 16, 2009 - 9:29pm1. It's not natural; against evolution
Please, go do an internet search about homosexuality in animals. It exists in hundreds of species. I just read an article the other day about gay penguins in a zoo in Europe raising a baby as their own. It exists in nature, so the argument that it isn't natural is not valid.
2. It's sinful; against the bible.
Not everyone believes in the bible. The beauty of America is that people get to believe whatever they want and not be persecuted for it. Contrary to the popular belief of people that use this argument, our country was NOT founded by a bunch of Christian god-fearing men. Rather, most of them were deists, and adamantly supported separation of church and state. On top of this, homosexuality is mentioned just six times in the Bible. Adultery is mentioned hundreds. Murder is mentioned hundreds. Lying is mention hundreds. If homosexuality was really a sin, would it not be mentioned hundreds of times as well? And there is little proof that these six passages that people use against homosexuality are actually talking about homosexuality in the context of modern times.
3. The homosexual lifestyle is destructive
First of all, define lifestyle. Because I'm pretty sure gay people have all sorts of different lifestyles. Believe it or not, gay people are not all the party-going, drug-using, promiscuous beings presented often times in the media. Most of them are normal members of society that you wouldn't suspect otherwise. I don't doubt that partying, doing drugs, and having promiscuous sex are parts of a destructive lifestyle, because they certainly are. But once again, these people do not represent the majority of homosexuals. Finally, the stories you hear in the media about gay teenagers killing themselves are because society puts so much pressure on them to be a certain way and they are told that who they are is wrong, and cannot handle the internal conflict any longer. It is not because they are living a destructive lifestyle, by any means.
4. Being gay is a choice; sexual orientation is changeable.
These two go together, and are probably the ones that irritate me the most. Being gay is not a choice- why in the world would somebody choose to be gay? Sexual orientation is an innate, unchangeable part of a human being. Whether it's genetic or not, it is something that is there from birth to death. Look at all the so called "success" stories by ex-gay ministry leaders, and look at how many of them came back later and said they were actually still gay. All those ministries do is give people the mindset not to act on their orientation, but they most certainly do not change their sexual orientation, because that is impossible. If you need more proof- look at every mainstream psychological and medical association not just in the United States but in any developed Western Country and they will tell you that sexual orientation is innate and unchangeable.
