"Sub Ladies" uncover the tale to the lost crew of USS Grunion

For 65 years the USS Grunion and it's crew went missing. Nobody knew if it got torpedo'd or just sank. The crew of 70 men all died when the USS Grunion, a submarine on it's maiden voyage, went down off the coast of Alaska in July of 1942. But thanks to the submarine commander's three songs, who financed the expedition to the site near the Aleutian islands of Kiska where it was believed the sub disappeared, the USS Grunion had been finally found.
But the this is where the story really gets interesting. A lady by the name of Mary Bentz of Bethesda, Md., dubbed the "Sub lady", who also had an uncle, Carmine Parziale that was on board this fateful sub, had been searching through photographs and information, found the last of the 70 men's family just as the sub was located. Mary and a few other "Sub ladies" who also lost their loved ones on board, were determined to find all 70 of the men's families to help put closure to this once in for all. You see, since the Grunion just disappeared, no one had a proper funeral, let alone an obituary in their local newspaper. So it was there goal to get each of the 70 sailors to have a proper story and obituary in their hometown paper. They deserved that much.
This is an amazing story of lost and found and the people that helped shed light on an almost forgotten piece of history. The lives of young men that served our country who happened to have lost their lives in a tragic incident. A story that deserves to be told to remember the those lives.
Here is the link to a story in the USA Today.
