SUNSET AT DAWN
SUNSET AT DAWN
I chocked on a yell as a pain crawled in my belly to my
back, taking with it all the courage I had gathered for nine months.I quickly opened the gate and managed a feeble jog to the front door.Dropping the shopping bags,I searched through my handbag for my keys that I was ever careless with. The pain was not taking a break however and the second one was long and intense. It cut through my stomach I was sure it had left a wound.I groaned helplessly and peacefully let go of my heavy body, destination ,to the hard staircases leading to the door.
My neigbour who was not really my close friend called me from her bedroom window asking if i was fine.I would have lied if it was just a headache. There was so much I was hiding from the world that I would have loved to deliver that baby all alone, even if it would be in hell.I told her to take me to the hospital.
"God, how I wish you would give me two more days to fully prepare myself.?"I found myself making the most absurd prayer as I stared at the sky where a dark cloud was slowly forming.I remembered my mother telling me that rain was a blessing and I felt tears form in my eyes.I was going to let God bless a child born out of aldulterly! That was my secret however and I knew my accomplice would not show up. He was miles away .
"Hey get ready that baby must come. I'am not getting ready for nothing."I imagined what the cloud would tell me if I kept complaining.I rose slowly and dragged myself inside the house.I had packed the baby bag two weeks earlier and Maggy the neighbour arrived on time to help me to the car
"Have you called Ken? "she asked as she started the engine
"yes Maggy and keep driving."I answered and started groaning though that time I was only pretending.I did not want to have a discussion with her,I did not want to end up spilling the beans. In a moment of confusion and pain one can do anything. She told me how to breathe and sit, and well it was Maggy, she loved being listened to.
"Derby but according to my calender you are supposed to have that baby next month but one."Maggy said and I was shocked that I forgot my pain for a minute."You keep track of my life Maggy, what is wrong with you?well, there are premature babies being born every day nosy woman!"I yelled at her that way she would save the quiz for her teenage daughter
It took us fifteen minutes to get to the hospital and a nurse took me to the deliverly room emediately. How wrong I was thinking that all was going well, the baby was too proud to turn its head to the right direction,or could be it sympathised with me and wanted to stay in my belly forever?whichever the reason it bought me a rad ticket to the theater.
"Congratulations its a beautiful baby girl."I heard a womans voice say in my sleep.
"Thank you Maggy for bringing my wife to the hospital.Your daughter told me."I heard Ken ,my husband say and I heard the baby cry.
"Derby told me she had called you?"I heard Maggy question and I had to force open my eyes.Ken was smiling at me and I smiled back.
"Thank you for giving me a daughter."Ken said tears in his eyes and I could feel my eyes begin to tear.
"Your baby is fine.she is not premature. I'am sure you miscalculated the days." Maggy went on with her ever boring comments.
"She did not miscalculate the days" a male voice said from the door."Hallo Derby, Ken? he greeted and walked across the room.It was Jason my brother in-law and the father of my child.
"Hey Jay when did you come back."Ken innocently hugged his brother who had not been in the country for months and he did not look happy either.
"This is a day I t miss, mum told me and I came emmediately." he said taking the baby in his hands.
"You will be an uncle Jayson."Ken said parting his shoulder.
"Thats where you are wrong Ken,"he said looking at me.I wished the word would swallow me.
"I'am this little angles father."he said with finality.I passed out.......
