Superheroes are people too...(4 of 5) (Neural Mass reprint)

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Finale

It seems I just can't catch a break no matter which side I‘m on. Lost in thought I wander the corridors of the O.P. It's been several days since I found out that Marcy and I had a son, and that he had died in the Facility Event. That's what they're calling it, those who are still alive down there. They also know that their time is limited on the planet. Thousands have flocked to the Lunar colony. Well, thousands with power and money. The poor, sick, normal people, Superhuman or not, are still down there counting the remaining days of their lives on one hand. We, the destroyers of humanity, sit idly by watching it all. I turn the corner into Command & Communications to see Blades with his feet up on the comm console.

"Legion of Injustice, League of Evil, Overlords Incorporated..."

"Blades, what‘re you doing?" He starts and climbs to his feet, obviously he wasn't expecting me.

"I just thought, you know, we could use a catchy name. Some sort of brand awareness."

"How about Planet Killers."

"Ooohh, market research has shown that the use of the word "kill" has negative impact on marketshare." He smiles at his joke.

"What good is ruling the planet if everyone on it is dead Blades? We don't need brand awareness, don't you have something better to do with your time?"

"Actually, I do. Check this out." He heads over to the the main computer terminal and taps a few buttons. A list pops up on the left viewscreen, offsetting the burning planet below in the center screen. "It seems the Society had all the parts for something called a chronoton generator here in the O.P. That‘s what all those crates are in Hangar Three."

"A what? Just when I thought my subscription to A Word A Day was coming in handy." I’m quite baffled.

"A time machine," Zap says entering C&C, carrying a copy of Prinderella and the Since, "Chronotons are theoretical particles that are an inherent part of the time stream. Controlling them would allow one to control time, theoretically."

"Theoretically. So what you‘re saying is we can alter the flow of time?"

"Well, theoretically. I have been studying the blueprints and I believe the parts are complete but the power usage is astronomical."

"How much?" I‘m intrigued by all of this suddenly. The gears in my head begin whirring.

"We would need more power than could ever be generated by any known man-made device." Zap looks a bit sad almost, the first emotion I ever remember him showing.

"You mean to tell me that between you, Electrodez, Neutron and the rest we don't have enough power to do SOMEthing?"

"Hmmm. You may have something there Steel. I will get to work on some sort of power converters." Zap throws the printout of Prinderella in the trash and starts working at a computer station.

"Blades, open a channel to the entire O.P. It's time we had a meeting."
