Survive the City - weekend edition - Why are we different"

Your "Survive the City" weekend edition here, giving you just a little something to chew on.

You don't need to be a New Yorker to participate. In fact, please participate no matter what.

I wanted to do a "survey" to find out how New Yorkers are different in their daily lives. Some of these factors are surly contributing to our high expenses. Which brings me to mention that I will soon be doing a "Survive the City" on a budget section about my plans to do NYC on $15 a day. Yikes.

So the way this works is I want to find out averages for daily/weekly/monthly activities. Just respond with how often you do these things

1) wear shoes in the house - always, sometimes, rarely, never
when I lived in LA I rarely wore shoes in the house. Now the answer is always

2) sleep naked - always, sometimes, rarely, never
it seems like if your house is heated, you may need to to compensate or maybe it's so
cold that you can't (as a NYCer)

3) eat breakfast - always, sometimes, rarely, never
it seems like I eat it les snow that I'm here. I need to make that change

4) eat out - every day, 2-3 times a week, 1-2 times a week, only on weekends, never
its much easier to eat out here. the kitchens are too small to cook in anyway

5) take the subway - multiple times a day, one a day, 2-3 times a week, 1-2 times a week,
a few times a month, rarely, never
most cities don't even have usable subway systems

6) take a taxi - daily, weekly, monthly, yearly
a taxi is an occasional thing most places and usually involves prior drinking - here,
it's a regular event

7) buy new coats/jackets - monthly, yearly, bi-anually, once every few years
I'm noticing the desire for many "new" types of clothing now that I'm here.

8) own a home or property - yes or no
It takes a lot to be a home owner here. My rent is twice the rate of many mortgages
elsewehre

9) make more than most of your friends - yes or no
New Yorkers tend to make a lot, but when taxes hit, sometimes it doesn't even
matter

10) go out after work during the week: bar, club, show, etc - often, sometimes, rarely, never
it's so easy to get to anything you want around here

11) exercise OUTSIDE of a gym - always, sometimes, rarely, never
I used to run 6 miles in the park, now I don't even want to get up to hit central park
which is right across the street!! I Joined the gym.

12) travel - once a month, a few times a year, once a year, never
If you can afford it, it's great to be in NYC because many different types of plane
flights leave from the area's airports - we got to St. John Virgin Islands in 3 1/2
hours!!

list any other things you think set New Yorkers apart. Thanks

You must like a density of people around you. (Y / N)

1) wear shoes in the house (sometimes to usually) 2) sleep naked - always 3) eat breakfast - sometimes 4) eat out - only on weekends or seldom 5) take the subway - never only in NY (Not needed usually) 6) take a taxi NEVER, don't need to drink. I'm a designated driver. (my rides are not dull if you think the rest is. I can always perform better, sober.) 7) buy new coats/jackets (as needed, once every few years) I'm noticing the desire for many "new" types of clothing now that I'm here. (On $15/day? good will? Get over it.) 8) own a home or property - yes, a couple (and 1/2 square mile. More indebted than most.) 9) make more than most of your friends - You want to make sumthin of it? ( I used to.) 10) go out after work during the week: rarely, never, (it really depends on what anything you want is. Retired, I work all the time. If you live long you might retire.) 11) exercise OUTSIDE of a gym. The right kind of work is exercise, I've slowed. 12) travel - I have traveled and lived with a mail address in probably more different places than you've passed through on your way to somewhere. ---------------- Some Women like to live in hive-like cities; more than men. But it really depends on the Man and his interests. Many men from New York do well there. Others don't and would like to be immersed in less congestion.
